The documentary Navalny has won Best Documentary Feature at this year's Oscars. Navalny is a powerful and significant film highlighting the story of anti-corruption activist and Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. The documentary "chronicles the investigation into the shocking assassination attempt of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny and his ongoing fight for democratic reform."
Although Alexei Navalny could not attend the award show -as he is serving an 11.5-year sentence- his wife and kids were in attendance.

During his acceptance speech, director Daniel Roher dedicated the award "to Navalny to all political prisoners around the world." He continued by saying, "Alexei, the world has not forgotten your vital message to us all. We cannot we must not be afraid to oppose dictators and authoritarianism wherever it rears its head." Then, Yulia Navalnaya, Navalny’s wife, gave a brief speech, saying, "My husband is in prison just for telling the truth. My husband is in prison just for defending democracy. Alexei, I am dreaming of the day when you will be free and our country will be free. Stay strong, my love.”

Moments after their Oscar win, the film crew attended a brief press conference in which they were able to talk deeper about the film, answer questions and give an update on Navalny.
